La sua posizione contro le alpi francesi e svizzere ha aiutato a forgiare in Piemonte (Pied-mont) un’identità abbastanza separata dal resto dell'Italia. L’estensione a nord della regione più accurata ed ordinata può facilmente essere la Svizzera, mentre le grandi piazze di Torino, gli archi e la vita sofisticata del cafè si devono più ad influenza francese che a qualcosa di "tipicamente italiano". La Camera dei Savoia, che ha regnato il Piemonte all’inizio dell'undicesimo secolo, ha generato una delle più grandi città d'Europa che è Torino. Molto del boom industriale italiano di questo secolo ha le sue radici nella regione, particolarmente attorno a Torino, dove la Fiat ha cominciato a fare automobili. La cucina piemontese è fortemente influenzata da quella Francese che usa carni marinate e verdure. Il clima non è un ostacolo alla produzione del vino e potete trovare alcuni buoni rossi, soprattutto quelli dalle vigne di Barolo e Barbera e gli spumanti di Asti. Collocata centralmente, Torino è una base ideale per l'esplorazione della regione. L'attrazione principale della zona è la Grande Traversata delle Alpi (GTA), una camminata di più di 200 km attraverso le alpi dalla Liguria al lago Maggiore nel nord-est della regione.
Torino Graziosa città dai larghi viali, dagli eleganti archi e dalle grandi costruzioni pubbliche, Torino è costruita al lato di una graziosa riva del fiume di Po. Anche se gran parte del movimento industriale e suburbano, soprattutto ad ovest e a sud del centro urbano, è ovviamente terribile, la città è benedetta da una fascia verde nelle colline ad est del fiume, con viste sulle alpi coperte di neve a ovest e a nord.

The region's neat and tidy northernmost reaches could easily be Swiss, while Torino's grand squares, arcades and sophisticated cafè life owe more to French influence than anything "typically Italian".
The House of Savoy, which ruled Piemonte during the early 11th century, created one of Europe's grand cities in Torino. Much of Italy's industrial boom this century has its roots in the region, particulrary in the around Torino, where Fiat started making cars. Piemonte cuisine is heavily influenced by French cooking and uses marinated meats and vegetables.
The crips climate is no hindrance to wine- making, and you can find some good reds, notably those from the vineyards of Barolo and Barbera, and sparkling wines from Asti.Centrally located, Torino is an ideal base for exploring the region. The area's main attraction is the Grande Traversata delle Alpi (GTA), a walk of more than 200km through the Alps from the Ligurian border to lago Maggiore in the north-east of the region.
TorinoA gracious city of wide boulevards, elegant arcades and grand public buildings, Torino is built beside a pretty stretch of the Po river. Although much of the industrial and suburban sprawl, especially west and south of the city centre, is predictably awful, the city is blessed with a green belt in the hills east of the river, with views to the snow-covered Alps west and north.
